Mod Tech Top 10 – PS3 Games of 2012

Time for another Mod Tech Top 10, this week I’m ranking my Top 10 most anticipated Playstation 3 games of 2012. Now these aren’t all exclusives I’ll get that out-of-the-way before we begin. Just games that are coming out this year, exclusive or multi-platform

10. Tomb Raider

This reboot is getting some pretty good hype, it’s been a long time since Lara Croft was a force in gaming and with the likes of Uncharted bringing that action/adventure style game back to the forefront of gamers minds, there seems like no better time to update the Tomb Raider brand. The game will tell the origin story of Lara Croft and feature a tighter, more gritty story and pair that with new gameplay to bring an all new experience to Tomb Raider fans.

9. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier

After so many delays, it seems as though Future Soldier is coming this May. This game has gone through so many changes, had things added, other thing removed, it’s probably nothing like the game originally announced 2 years ago. Nonetheless, I still can’t wait to get my hands on it. As the name suggests, you will be equipped with the latest futuristic weapons and gadgets that will give you the edge on the battlefield, going in all guns blazing won’t work here, stealth is key.

8. Bioshock: Infinite

Leaving the depths of the sea and soaring into the sky for the new installment in the Bioshock franchise, you play as Booker DeWitt, a former private detective who is on a case to find Elizabeth, a missing woman and return her unharmed. Seems simple enough right? Well it wouldn’t be Bioshock if it was, expect to fight for your life, just up in the sky instead of underwater.

7. Ninja Gaiden 3

This one launches in a few days and Team Ninja are going a different way with it. Promising new story, new gameplay and new modes from previous installments in the franchise. Focusing on Ryu and giving you the feeling that you really are cutting people down, instead of the mindless slashfest of previous titles. The game will also include online multiplayer, competitive and co-op, so you can cut your friends in half to your heart’s content.

6. Assassin’s Creed 3

It’s all sequels so far on the list, with Assassin’s Creed 3 coming in at number 6. Switching time zones, the game moves from its ancient roots into war-torn America. You play as Connor, an assassin of British and Native American decent. Historical figures will pop up in the game as the war between the Assassin’s and the Templars kicks into high gear. Look for this game to improve upon what is already established in the series, but I wouldn’t expect to it reinvent the wheel.

5. Starhawk

Having been involved in the beta for Starhawk, I have become more and more excited, the more and more I play. As my skills in the cockpit improve, I find myself itching to pick up my controller and get into a dogfight. The good thing about Starhawk is, if I get sick of flying, I can switch my Hawk to a walking tank and engage in some infantry combat, that is what makes this game fun, it appeals to all types of players. The action is fun and frantic, never giving you time to stop and breath!

4. Resident Evil 6

What a reveal trailer for this game. Capcom came out with a bang and gave me a lot of reasons to be excited about Resident Evil 6. Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield, finally appearing in the same game. The action looks fast paced and seems to add some nice new additions to the shooting system, sliding onto your back anyone? Zombies are back as well, RE6 definitely seems to be aiming for that mix of survival horror and action, lets hope they nail it and we get a better game than Resident Evil 5.

3. Grand Theft Auto V

Another story of an ex con trying to go straight only to get mixed up in trouble in Los Santos. That is Grand Theft Auto V. Expect more free roaming environments, killing, sex, drugs and whatever else Rockstar cook up for GTA:V. We all know what to expect, but it will be interesting to see how they go about it, what will change, how the story will play out and what improvements Rockstar can bring to the series for the fifth installment.

2. Medal of Honor: Warfighter

You might think me weird for placing this game so high up on the list? I’ll explain. EA and Danger Close would’ve learned their lessons with the first Medal of Honor game to come into the modern era. Lessons learned are a good thing, add to that the gorgeous Frostbite 2 engine that powers Battlefield 3, the fact that some DICE employees are helping out with the game to give it a polished feel and you know that the developers will be going all out to distinguish their game from the pack. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on Warfighter and seeing what they have come up with.

1. The Last of Us

The only original IP on the list, The Last of Us is being developed by Naughty Dog, creators of Uncharted. The game looks absolutely gorgeous and knowing Naughty Dog the story and acting in the game should be top-notch. You play as survivors of a modern plague that has decimated humanity, whats left fight for food and weapons, while also fighting against the mutations the population has become. Though it’s not confirmed to be out this year, it has been in development for a while, so here’s hoping.
