Mod Tech Top 10 – Movies of 2012

This weeks Top 10 focuses on my most anticipated movies coming in 2012. There are alot of great movies coming out this year that span across all genres. Check out my list and let us know what you think and what movies you think should be on the list.

10. The Amazing Spider-Man

This reboot is getting some serious hype and from the trailers it looks quite good. I am a fan of the original Sam Raimi films and was skeptical of this movie when it was first announced but the more information that has been released the more excited I have become. Lets hope Spidey lives up to the hype.

9. The Expendables 2

Who hasn’t been waiting their entire lives to have an action movie cast like this? Stallone, Statham, Willis, Van Damme and big Arnie, it’s a fanboys dream. The first movie was a really fun action movie with lots of violence and explosions, a throw back to 80’s action. The sequel looks to up the ante in every way. I can’t wait!

8. Battleship

Yeah, a movie based on a board game and it has Rihanna in it, not really a recipe for success is it? It does have Liam Neeson though, that’s enough for me to watch. Anyway, judging from the trailers released the movie looks to be action packed, lots of CGI, which isn’t always a good thing but can’t hurt if used correctly. I’m cautiously optimistic about this one.

7. The Bourne Legacy

Ok, so no Matt Damon, no Jason Bourne, whats the point? Well I’m not sure myself, but the movie still looks good. The casting of Edward Norton is also a smart move. If the studio can capture the action and suspense of the original movies and keep up the great impact of the fight scenes, this movie could very well be a hit.

6. Men in Black 3

I like Men in Black, I didn’t get all the hate for Men in Black 2 and I will hit the cinemas to see Men in Black 3. The series has always been fun to watch in my eyes and the 3rd movie looks to change up the formula of the series with the time travel storyline. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones return which is always good as they work well together.

5. Looper

No trailer for this one but it does looks very interesting indeed. In a future where time travel has been banned from the masses but still used by the mob for assassinations where they send back people from the future to be killed in the past, Joseph Gordon Levitt sees his next target as his older self, played by Bruce Willis, he is faced with an obvious dilemma. Early screenings of the movie have said it is quite good, so when its finally released it seems like a must see.

4. Taken 2

Oh Taken, how I love you. The sequel to the smash hit Taken, picks up with Liam Neeson’s character Bryan Mills and his ex-wife from the first film being kidnapped in a revenge plot by one of the relatives of the bad guys from the original film. Expect there to be a lot brutal beating dished out by Neeson as he escapes capture and moves to destroy the men who threatened his family. You think they would learn their lesson?

3. The Avengers

Earths greatest defenders assemble to save the Earth from an invading army in The Avengers. Featuring Iron Man, Thor, The Hulk, Black Widow, Captain America, Hawkeye and the great Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, the movie sets The Avengers against Loki who has invaded the Earth and seeks to enslave humanity. The action looks stellar and the CGI brilliant, this one is really exciting.

2. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Peter Jackson has finally returned to Middle Earth after some lengthy delays and dramas with production companies over The Hobbit. Telling the story of Bilbo Baggins but featuring characters from the original Lord of the Rings trilogy including Gandalf, Legolas and Frodo, this one looks to recapture the magic of the Lord of the Rings films and judging by production blogs and trailers, the magic is still there.

1. The Dark Knight Rises

After the brilliant The Dark Knight, Bale and Nolan return with the final film in their story. Featuring Tom Hardy as Bane, the man who breaks the Bat, this is definitely the most anticipated movie of the year. Expect lots of twists and turns in the epic climax to the best Bat trilogy ever.

  1. I had every inkling to see Dark night till I saw what bane looked like…now I might just might wait to rent it off of netflix in a year. Battleship muwahaha, I remember it saying based on the popular board game..After the trailer It earned a serious sure it is. Avengers Oh of course I have to see it (comic book geek), Spiderman….no, tired of reboots no matter what hollyweird thinks. The hobbit (barely made it through the rings trilogy..lots of walking) might see it at the 1.50 theater. Looper sounds really cool as I love scifi, Expendables 2 a def see on opening w/e (I’m a child of the 70’s.80’s action films). great post anyways def thumbs up. But I would of added 2012’s biggest budget top films.

    • Thanks for that in depth comment. Glad you liked the post. I can get past bane, if they fix his voice anyway. I agree 100% with the expendables, being an 80s kid myself.
