‘Game of Thrones’ Showrunners Detail Plans For Season 3 and Beyond

With the renewal of Game of Thrones for a 3rd season, the shows producers have outlined their vision for how the show will continue in the future.

“Well… “A Storm of Swords” is too long to fit in a single season. And as readers know, “A Feast for Crows” and “A Dance with Dragons” takes place during roughly the same time frame, so we’ll have to fold those together. The plan, if we’re lucky enough to be given the opportunity to see it through, is to use as many seasons as we need to tell the story as a whole, to do justice to George’s entire opus”.

About how they would deal with adapting from the source material they continued with;

“We’re not looking at our series as a book-by-book adaptation so much as an adaptation of George’s entire saga. In other words, in our minds season two is not “A Clash of Kings.” It is the second season of our adaptation of “A Song of Ice and Fire.”

So it seems as though the team is looking at focusing on telling the entire story rather than trying to force massive novels into a 10 episode TV season. This is a good strategy, not only will the quality be better as they will be able to put more of Martin’s story into the show, rather than cutting it out for time sake. It will also give Martin the time to finish the final 2 books in his series before the show catches up.

  1. This is kind of cool. I am all for extra quality. As long as they don’t completely deviate, I am happy.
