Battlefield 3 ‘Close Quarters’ Trailer Looks Like Pure Insanity

A new gameplay trailer from the upcoming DLC expansion for Battlefield 3, Close Quarters, has shown the game looks to be complete insanity.

The trailer shows a lot of close range infantry combat which is the basic premise of this particular DLC. The level destruction looks awesome and the gameplay looks typically Battlefield, just on a smaller scale.

Close Quarters launches in June, 1 week earlier on PS3.

Check out the trailer after the break.

Battlefield 3 Introducing E-Sports Feature?

If you load up your copy of Battlefield 3 on the Playstation 3 today you might see something interesting. Under the multiplayer menu and Matches sub-menu you will get an alert that states you are not scheduled for any E-Sports matches, directing you to visit the Battlelog website or participate in the Battlefield tournament.

This is a very interesting addition to Battlefield 3, it would seem that DICE and EA are trying to get Battlefield in to the E-Sports community, this could be a big boost for the game, made easier with the Rent-A-Server function that was added in the last mega patch for the game last week.

Would you play Battlefield 3 in a tournament? Leave a comment below, or sign up to the forum and discuss it.

Battlefield 3 Patch Live for PS3

A massive patch is now live for Battlefield 3. Clocking in at around 1GB, the patch has a list of fixes and additions. The most interesting feature in the new patch is the rent a server, for a fee players can rent their own private server to completely customize their games. Cost range from $1.49 for a day up to $64.99 for 90 days. The competitive arena in Battlefield 3 just got a bit more interesting.

One thing about the patch is if you have the Back to Karkand expansion pack, you will need to reinstall the expansion after you patch Battlefield 3.

Battlefield 3 ‘Close Quarters’ DLC Introduced New Mode, Takes out Rush

No Rush!

The upcoming DLC for Battlefield 3, Close Quarters has dropped the Rush game mode from its map option in favour of a new mode called Conquest Domination. The reasons behind the change were confirmed on the Battlefield Blog with Battlefield 3 Lead Designer Niklas Fegraeus stating:

“We understood quickly that Rush, being a large and progressive mode that takes you on a journey from M-COM to M-COM, simply wouldn’t fit physically. So instead, we turned our attention to Conquest. How could we tailor this essential Battlefield game mode to fit our new type of environment?”

The post goes into great detail about the upcoming DLC and how the game modes will work on the new maps.

Battlefield 3 – Close Quarters Expansion First Gameplay Trailer

EA and DICE have revealed the first gameplay trailer for the upcoming Close Quarters expansion to Battlefield 3. Entitled ‘Ziba Tower’ the trailer shows some epic Battlefield 3 craziness and looks like the expansion is going to up the destruction to the next level.

The level seems like it will be very confined, with one section showing rooms on either side of a hallway where the walls can be blasted out, that will make for an extremely lethal Killzone, pardon the pun.

Battlefield 3 Close Quarters arrives in June, 1 week earlier for PS3 owners.

Check out the trailer below.

Battlefield 3 ‘Close Quarters’ DLC to feature Bad Company 2 level destruction?

Massive Destruction?

After reading through the announcement of 3 expansion packs coming for Battlefield 3 and seeing the fact that environmental destruction was being added with the ‘Close Quarters’ DLC, I contacted EA/DICE on twitter to see if I could confirm whether or not the level of destruction being added to the game would be on par with what was seen in Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

I received a reply back stating that “This information will be unveiled at a later date. Please stay tuned to our Battlelog news for the latest on this. ^KF.”

Why would this information need to be clarified and released at a later date if DICE weren’t aiming for something close, if not more destructible then Bad Company 2? It’s an interesting, if not, cryptic reply, though so was the decision to leave out that level of destruction from Battlefield 3 in the first place. I suppose only time will tell on this one.

GDC12: Battlefield 3 Expansion Packs Incoming

EA/DICE have today announced the release of 3 themed Battlefield 3 expansion packs to be released over the course of the year. The packs feature tight infantry based combat, vehicle based maps and a third that has yet to be detailed.

From the press release:

Powered by the Frostbite™ 2 engine, the next expansion packs are: Battlefield 3: Close Quarters in June, Battlefield 3: Armored Kill in Spring, and Battlefield 3: End Game in summer.

  • Battlefield 3: Close Quarters – In Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, players are dropped into a frantic, infantry-only theatre of war. Frostbite 2 high definition destruction makes the environment come alive as everything from furniture to plaster gets shot to pieces. Players will feel the intensity of the world exploding around them as rubble and broken pieces pile up on the floor, while tight level design and vertical gameplay create a highly competitive environment. Battlefield 3: Close Quarter salso introduces new weapons, assignments and unique dog tags to bring back to the base game.
  • Battlefield 3: Armored KillFollowing the tight infantry gameplay of Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, DICE will release Battlefield 3: Armored Kill that ups the ante for vehicular mayhem as only Battlefield can do. Featuring new driveable tanks, ATVs, mobile artillery and more, Battlefield 3: Armored Kill also delivers huge battlefields for an all-out vehicle assault, including the biggest map in Battlefieldhistory.
  • Battlefield 3: End Game – The fourth expansion pack will ship in the winter but details remain tightly guarded.
